Wade Guyton

October 2022—March 2023
Two stacks of paintings sit in a room with a terrazo floor and concrete walls.

In Room 1 of the Pavilions, Glenstone presented Untitled, 2020–21, a suite of 26 paintings by American artist Wade Guyton (b. 1972). Guyton is best known for modifying and intentionally misusing consumer technologies such as inkjet printers and scanners to explore the evolving relationship between people and images in the digital era. Guyton began making the paintings that comprise Untitled in March of 2020, capturing the collective isolation and uncertainty that pervaded the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic as he worked alone in his New York studio. The 26 panels showcase a dizzying array of images—screenshots, personal photos, and colorful bitmap files—presented as sculptural stacks leaning against the wall.
