An Introduction to Glenstone Museum
Founded with the mission to seamlessly integrate art, architecture, and landscape, Glenstone is an art museum located on over 300 acres of rolling hills and unspoiled woodland in Potomac, Maryland. The museum, opened in 2006 and expanded in 2018, offers nearly 60,000 square feet of exhibition space to showcase its collection of more than 1300 works by 200 contemporary artists. Glenstone welcomes 100,000 visitors each year, and admission is always free.
We offer two diversified dining spaces at Glenstone for our guests to experience. Our Café provides a communal dining space for guests to enjoy a full-service lunch, and our Patio offers a quick counter service coffee house vibe for the on-the-go guests.
Position Overview
A Café Attendant's goal is to exceed expectations and provide meaningful engagement with our visitors in our two dining locations. Our Café Attendants are trained to share responsibilities, and tasks are rotated throughout the visitor cycle. They should be available three to four days per week during Glenstone’s current operating days of Thursday-Sunday. They must be available to work until 9:00 p.m. on Saturdays for Glenstone’s Summer Evenings. Initial training will take place on four pre-designated days per week for a minimum of two-weeks.
Duties include table, counter-top, and barista service as well as front-of-house and back-of-house preparations and clean up. As a part of service Café Attendants prepare for service, seat visitors, take orders and special requests using TOAST point-of-sale system. Café Attendants also support the culinary team with basic food preparation. Additional responsibilities include cleaning tables, dish and pot washing, and maintaining daily maintenance and production logs along with any other duties assigned and contributing to a welcoming environment for our visitors and staff.

Key Responsibilities
- Be responsive to the Café Supervisor, Food & Beverage Manager, and Chef to optimize customer service, resource management, safety, and sanitation.
- Work together with the Café team to service two on-site venues.
- Take orders from visitors and use TOAST point-of-sale software and hardware.
- Wash dishes, glasses, and flatware.
- Maintain work areas, coffee machines, tables, linens, and equipment.
- Assist with basic food preparation.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards.
- Enforce HACCP sanitation as well as allergen awareness guidelines.
- Prepare venues for the next service.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Desired Attributes & Characteristics
Seeking a candidate with strong communication skills, a positive attitude, and enjoys working with a team. The candidate must engage with visitors in a manner consistent with Glenstone's guidelines. The successful candidate will be sensitive and responsive to visitors’ needs including dietary preferences, restrictions, intolerance, and allergies, and will be able to make informed accommodations.

Required Skills & Experience
- COVID-19 vaccination and up to date on all boosters.
- Strong cultural competence, interpersonal communication, planning, and organizational skills.
- Experience in a full-service café, bakery, coffee shop, or restaurant.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- High level of reliability and punctuality.
- Accuracy and speed in handling emergency situations and providing solutions.
- Maintain excellent personal hygiene.
- Able to lift to 50 lbs. and work on your feet for an entire shift.
- The work schedule three to four shifts; Thursday-Sunday, with at least both weekends' days through September 7th, 2025.
- Ability to work until 9:00 p.m. on Saturdays for Glenstone’s Summer Evenings.
- Reliable transportation to and from Potomac, MD.
- A valid driver’s license to drive our electric vehicles.
Preferred Qualifications
- Barista experience and training
- TOAST experience and knowledge
- Allergen awareness training
- SERV Safe certification.
- Spanish language skills.
