American Mink

Neogale vison

The American mink, Neogale vison, is a semi-aquatic, carnivorous mammal from the family Mustelidae. They are found throughout North America (except for the Southwestern United States). Minks are solitary and territorial, choosing dens near streams, rivers, lakes, marshes, and coastlines. Their diet consists of small mammals, fish, crustaceans, amphibians, and birds. Wild American minks have long bodies, short legs, partially webbed feet, a long bushy tail, and are covered in dark brown or black fur with a white patch on their chin. At Glenstone, a mink has been sighted swimming in the stream along the Woodland Trail.
